Baby Booties

A great gift for new mothers, Each bootie is handmade integrating small pieces of huipil, (wee-peel) a traditional blouse worn by Mayan women. To the knowledgeable observer a huipil identifies the wearer's village, social and marital status, religious background, wealth, and individual personality. 

Art, based in the culturally rich, offers employment opportunities in knitting and embroidery to the local villagers. Free training, flexible hours, community education and the use of recycled products are all hallmarks of their organization.
